Experiencing the Overwhelming Scale of Nature and Design at the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest
Located next to Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay is one of Singapore’s most iconic attractions.
While it is widely known as a major tourist destination, stepping inside reveals something far more refined than the word “garden” suggests — a highly curated, immersive experience.
On this visit, I explored the paid areas in the following order:
Flower Dome → Cloud Forest.
Both spaces offer a remarkable sense of scale and visual richness, making the experience deeply satisfying from start to finish.

A Journey Through Flowers and Plants From Around the World
The first stop was the Flower Dome.

Upon entering, a bright and spacious interior opens up, making it easy to forget that you are indoors.
Plants from around the world are displayed by theme and region, and simply walking through the dome feels like traveling across borders, moving from one climate and culture to another.

Animals Created From African Flowers and Trees
One of the most memorable areas was the African-themed section.
Vivid flowers and plantings reminiscent of arid landscapes form the backdrop for animal figures, such as giraffes, created entirely from plants.

Rather than decorative objects, these figures are expressions of a unique idea — using flowers and trees themselves as the medium.
The result blurs the line between nature and art.
From a distance, they appear almost like sculptures; up close, they reveal themselves as intricate assemblies of living plants.
That duality leaves a strong impression.
An Olive Tree Over 1,000 Years Old
Another highlight within the Flower Dome was an olive tree said to be over 1,000 years old.
Seeing a tree that has lived for centuries standing quietly inside a modern architectural space immediately alters one’s sense of time.

The twisted trunk and textured bark convey the weight of years far more powerfully in person than in photographs.
It was a subtle yet profound moment within the dome.
A Collection of Fully Realized Worlds
What stood out most throughout the Flower Dome was how complete each scene felt.
The colors of the flowers, the surrounding structures, the gentle curves of the pathways, and the way light fills the space — every detail appears carefully considered.

The result is an environment with an exceptionally high level of spatial and visual harmony.

A Dramatic Non-Everyday World Created by a Mountain and Waterfall
Next was the Cloud Forest.

The moment you step inside, the atmosphere changes.
In front of you rises a massive man-made mountain, with a waterfall cascading down its surface.
Despite being indoors, the scale and power of the scene feel anything but artificial.

The experience goes beyond what can be seen — the sound of falling water, the cool mist, and the humidity all contribute to a fully immersive environment.

Standing near the waterfall, the fine spray on the skin creates an unexpectedly refreshing sensation.
Elevated Walkways and Constantly Changing Perspectives
One of the defining features of the Cloud Forest is its use of vertical space.
As you move along the elevated walkways, your perspective continuously shifts — looking up at the mountain, viewing the waterfall from the side, and eventually looking down over the entire dome.

Though you remain within the same structure, the impressions change dramatically depending on where you stand.
Views of Marina Bay Sands and the Surrounding Cityscape
From the higher points of the walkways, the outdoor scenery comes into view.
Looking out over Marina Bay Sands and the Supertree Grove, the national flower–inspired structures, creates a striking contrast.

Even while inside the exhibition, you are constantly reminded of the surrounding city.
The way nature, architecture, and urban landscape overlap within a single view is particularly memorable.
Jurassic Park Collaboration/An Added Layer of Immersion
During this visit, a Jurassic Park collaboration was taking place.
Dinosaurs were placed throughout the gardens, and from the moment you entered, it felt as though you had stepped into the world of the film.

While visually impactful, the dinosaurs blended surprisingly well with the scale of the plants and the overall environment, never feeling out of place.
This limited-time feature added another dimension to the experience.
Why This Place Feels So Satisfying
More Than a Typical Tourist Attraction
Gardens by the Bay is not merely a place designed to look impressive.

It offers the experience of encountering plants from around the world,
a thoughtful integration of nature and human design,
a constant dialogue with the surrounding cityscape,
and evolving exhibitions through seasonal and collaborative events.

All of these elements come together to create a place that reveals different qualities with each visit.
The more time you spend exploring, the more rewarding it becomes.
In Closing
A Garden Experience That Lingers
Gardens by the Bay is not a destination that ends when you leave.
The impressions of space, atmosphere, and scale remain quietly in your memory.
If you have the opportunity to visit Marina Bay Sands, I highly recommend setting aside time for this garden as well.
The experience is likely to exceed expectations.
